Getting an ebook from your computer to your Kindle

If you have received a free ebook from me and you’re wondering how to get it off your computer and onto your e-reading device, the following instructions should help.

  1. click on the .mobi link in the email I sent after you joined the Ingrid Skyberg new book alert list (or download the file you received directly from me in an email)
  2. this will then automatically download to your downloads folder
  3. connect your Kindle to your computer with the USB cable (this would have been supplied with your e-reading device)
  4. open the finder/filemanager/windows explorer window (the window that shows you the list of files and folders on your computer)
  5. you’ll see a new device listed on the left hand side called KINDLE
  6. click on the new device
  7. a new window should open showing the contents of the Kindle
  8. inside you should find a folder called ‘Documents’
  9. open another finder/filemanager/windows explorer window and navigate to the .mobi file you downloaded earlier to your regular downloads folder
  10. copy it to the documents folder on the KINDLE (or drag and drop it)
  11. disconnect your device from your computer
  12. open up your Kindle and the new book should be there – if it isn’t you may need to refresh your Kindle

This technique should work in the same way for getting epubs to other e-reading devices

If the above instructions are not clear, there’s a YouTube tutorial that shows you how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyeyPQoLwMA
