I am – finally!!! – thrilled to be able to tell you that the new Ingrid Skyberg FBI Thriller is nearly ready for publication. It’s currently with a team of advance readers for road testing, and it’ll shortly be sent off to the proof reader once the final tweaks have been incorporated. Publication won’t be far behind.
The new novel – the sixth in the series – is called Below Zero and is set in Stockholm in December 2014. Fans will remember that at the end of Book 5, Shoot First, Ingrid ends up owing Nick Angelis a favour, and he calls it in at the beginning of Below Zero. He sends her on a top secret – and highly illegal – mission to Sweden, but the country becomes the victim of a series of terrorist incidents and the only way Ingrid can carry complete her mission is by breaking the law… again, and again, and again.
Unlike previous books where Ingrid has been investigating crimes, in Below Zero she’s the one being hunted. It’s been fun to put her in the position of second guessing cops rather than perps, and it’s also been interesting to take away her supporting cast. Not having Angela Tate, or McKittrick or Jennifer around means Ingrid has to rely on her instincts much more. In a sense, Below Zero gives us a purer Ingrid.
When Eva started writing the Ingrid Skyberg books in 2013, she deliberately gave her heroine a Swedish heritage as a nod to the Scandi crime she enjoyed reading so much. She always intended to set a novel in Sweden, and it’s been a real challenge to take Ingrid out of London and her familiar surroundings. Because of the change of location, and without the cast of supporting characters, Below Zero is much more of a stand alone novel. My hope is that it’ll be a great way of new readers to discover the series.
